Roadmap Therapy is an integrated approach to therapy
that gives clients and therapist a clear way to understand symptoms and straightforward,
reasoned options of remedies. The Roadmap Therapy mantra is that therapist can
give clients and map of their insides with operating instructions. This map and
operation instructions gives your clients a way to figure out what is going on
inside of them and why-and what to do with themselves.
The
mapping tool for understanding yourself is based on the idea that you are not
a single self but a symphony of selves. Inside
of any one person there are different parts or selves. And using a wonderfully
elegant theory of personality called Transactional Analysis-both Basic and Advanced
versions; these internal parts can be clearly identified and known. Beyond
increasing awareness and insight, which is no small thing, the goal of mapping
is building an inner therapist for your clients. The idea is that symptoms originate
in the child aspects, critical aspects or an absent grownup aspect. The mapping
part of this therapy really helps localize symptoms and determine who is driving.
The building of an inner therapist then becomes the rightful partner in therapy.
Using insight and the operating instructions you and client's inner therapist
can have a sense of the cause and the remedies. Not that these are overnight or
even brief interventions, but this approach provides understandable and focused
way conducting psychotherapy. The Operating Instructions There
4 clearly identifiable internal things that cause symptoms for your clients.
The
four areas are: 1. Feeling and Emotions and how they are experienced, processed
and expressed. 2. Emotional Needs that all humans have, and
how met they are, and what we do about their unmetness. 3.
Internal Programming, primarily from our past, and how it influences how we feel
about ourselves, life and others; how we behave in conscious and unconscious ways;
how we believe about ourselves, life and others. 4. How our
capacity to be powerful and active and our capacity to be receptive and emotional
is configured and balanced. Roadmap Therapy uses these understandings
as a foundation and then is kitchen sink in terms of interventions. Roadmap therapy
gives you a multitude of active and non active intervention strategies to help
you help your clients. These interventions are drawn from Basic and Advanced Transactional
Analysis, Applied Psychomotor, Self Parenting, Gestalt,
Experiential and other therapies. You will always have
something to do even when it might be best to do nothing. Roadmap therapy will
give you a firm grounding in theory and technique which then allows for therapeutic
effectiveness and creativity.
