WHY THERAPY?

Unfortunately, too many wait until something in their lives is bad broken or they are way miserable to seek help. For a number of reasons, help is not easy to seek. But, given the kind of training you got in being happy; and/or good in relationships; and/or successful and balanced in a career; and/or fill in this dysfunctional blank; why would you think you wouldn't need help in the form of guidance and teaching. Wisdom is knowing when to ask for help or just plain wanting to know more. Healthy humility is taking the next right action.

Regrettably, psychotherapy is not or is just becoming something that is a good thing to do. So useful and necessary is psychotherapy that I am fairly bumfuzzled about why personal growth weekends and psychotherapy, which are the gold standard methods for achieving self-fluency and self-competence, aren't widely and wildly touted, encouraged and valued.

I believe that one of the main reasons folks aren't openly and avidly availing themselves of personal knowing and growing experiences is that it seems murky, difficult and a little scary. One analogy I use is that looking inside is something akin to feeling around in a dark room for the lamp. One doesn't know what one will bump into, and it may not be pleasant or easy to deal with. If someone doesn't feel like they will be good at something, they will be understandably reluctant. Also, if someone feels like a place will be spookey or uncomfortable then there can be an understandable avoidance.

So the major goal of this site is to resoundingly affirm that self knowledge is not rocket science....that it can be accomplished and the benefits are wonderful and grand. We can turn the lights on inside no problem!

The idea here is that you can get very good at knowing yourself and it can become wonderfully interesting instead of spookey or uncomfortable. And the benefits are indeed grand--both for yourself, personally and professionally, and for those who are close to you.

The way to get good at self understanding and self competence is with the map of your insides with operating instructions that is available. My hope is that having a map will make approaching yourself and becoming your own expert more appealing and easy. Especially since the consequences of self ignorance are many and devastating. Lack of vital information leaves one destined to repeat painful mistakes and perpetrate hurt on those around us, especially those we love.

This means less time in old familiar bad feeling ditches and increased capacity for good feelings.  This also means the capacity for consciously avoiding and/or getting out of bad feeling ditches.  And this could mean an increased capacity for grace when ditch happens.

Psychotherapy clients over time can become more and more adept at using psychotherapy and becoming masterful with themselves.  Which is a really really good thing.
